These backpacks will include bilingual materials (English and Spanish) with family-friendly outdoor activities, maps, mental health resources, art supplies, and nature exploration supplies like magnifying glasses and nature journals. This year's bag will also feature an Environmental Justice Coloring Book developed in partnership with Clean Power Lake County. Backpacks will be distributed directly to families at events in collaboration with our community partner organizations in North Chicago, Highwood, Round Lake, and Waukegan. Each backpack costs approximately $20 to produce, and we need your support to meet our goal of 600 backpacks.
Please consider making a monetary donation to support the Explorer Backpacks. Many of the supplies for the bags are available in bulk, and a small donation can go a very long way!
A donation of $25 could supply art supplies for five backpacks.
A donation of $60 could create three full backpacks with printed resources for parents and students, art supplies, notebooks, and nature exploration supplies.
A donation of $100 or more supplies five backpacks for families in need of summer support.
We are also accepting donations of new supplies in quantities of at least 100 or more. Items with corporate logos are accepted, and if your organization has materials that are not listed below, but may be helpful, please reach out as the list is not exclusive. These supply donations can be coordinated with Dani Abboud at dabboud@brushwoodcenter.org.
Supply donations could include: notebooks, pencils, crayons/Colored pencils/markers, children’s scissors, flashlights, magnifying glasses, seeds/planting kits.
