Brushwood Center, Cool Learning Experience, and EEAI are teaming up to provide a joint Project Learning Tree and Earth Force IL training! This is a great opportunity for educators, both formal and informal, to find new ways to incorporate nature and outdoor time into any lesson.
Project Learning Tree is a long-established, award-winning environmental education program that uses trees and forests as windows on the world to advance environmental literacy, stewardship, and pathways to green careers. Project Learning Tree® (PLT) recently released a re-imagined edition of their award-winning curriculum guide to engage kindergarten through grade 8 students in exploring their environment. This guide includes fifty field-tested, hands-on activities that integrate investigations of nature with science, math, English language arts, and social studies. This new, cutting-edge resource for educators offers robust, real-world learning experiences for students designed to bolster STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning, promote civic engagement, and help young people acquire the skills they’ll need to be creative problem solvers.
Earth Force is a new, student-led Community Action and Problem-Solving Process that combines the hands-on education that young people need to understand environmental issues with the civic experience they need to engage in civic action. The six-step process provides educators with all the tools, resources and innovative methods necessary to assist students in investigating environmental issues within their community, democratically deciding on which issue to tackle, researching that issue and then developing a feasible plan to take action. For more information check out their website - https://earthforce.org/
Participants have the option of attending one or both trainings. For those familiar with PLT, we encourage you to still attend both sessions, as the re-imagined curriculum includes exciting new activities and will be a great refresher! Participants will receive an electronic copy of PLT’s new Explore Your Environment: K-8 Activity Guide, as well as a certificate demonstrating the completion of a PLT curriculum training.
This training will be in-person, limited to 15 participants, and CDC guidelines will be followed. As much of the training will be outdoors as possible, and participants must wear masks.
There will also be a provided lunch & fun door prizes for participants!
Scholarships are available for anyone interested, please contact Dani Abboud at dabboud@brushwoodcenter.org for more information on how to register.
