Policies, Practices, and Implications of Renewable Energy in Illinois

2pm CDT /  Speakers: Craig Sieben, Kelly Shelton, Jen Walling, and John Wasik (Moderator)
During the COVID-19 crisis, the fossil fuel industry has crashed while clean energy remained both economically and environmentally resilient. Transitioning to renewable energy is critical to solving the climate crisis and addressing environmental injustices linked to fossil fuel pollution. Illinois ranks second in the Midwest for installed renewable power capacity.

This round table will explore the future of renewable energy in Illinois and the positive impact a clean energy transition would have on climate change and existing environmental inequities linked to fossil fuel pollution. These top energy consultants, policy leaders, and government officials will share their perspectives on the state of the private and public energy sector, current incentives to transition to renewables, and policy needs as we aim to build a cleaner future for our communities and the planet. Anti-Racism Resources for Environmentalists:

Brushwood Center holds Jacob Blake, his family, and the Kenosha community in our hearts in light of the devastating demonstration of police brutality and ensuing violence against protesters last week. As the call for change echoes throughout our communities and across the nation, we acknowledge the significant need for anti-racist action in the environmental sector. We will continue to feature anti-racism resources in this newsletter and encourage our readers to organize and take action against injustices in our own communities, networks, and institutions. #BlackLivesMatter

Application Deadline: November 1, 2020

Market Dates: November 27 - December 6, 2020

Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods invites Artists and Artisans to sell their work at our 4th annual Nature-Inspired Holiday Market. Items may include but are not limited to: fine art prints or small original artwork, notecards, jewelry and personal accessories, functional objects for the home or garden, decorative items, toys, ornaments and holiday related decorations and items. All art must in some way be related to nature (subject matter, materials used, function, etc.), but we encourage a wide variety of styles, media and interpretations of that theme.

CALL FOR ART: She Speaks, The Voice of the Community

On the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment, Brushwood Center is organizing a community art project honoring the role women have played in the environmental movement.  She Speaks: The Voice of the Community asks artists, community members, youth & families to honor a contribution by the woman of their choice by creating a small work of art in her honor.  Contributions can have been big or small, recent or long ago, by someone you know, or someone you will never meet.  Participate by creating a 2D artwork in the style and media of your choice on provided wooden plaques available on Brushwood Center's front porch. All skill levels welcome! Once completed, the plaques will be displayed on a large sculptural piece outdoors at Brushwood Center as part of a community expression of support for social and environmental justice.
